“News dated 2012”
As part of the “Turkish Local Media on the Road to the EU” project, carried out by the Ministry for European Union Affairs under the auspices of Egemen Bağış, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, and supported by the British Embassy in Ankara, a study visit to Brussels and London was organized between 5–8 March 2012.
Following Regional Information Seminars held in 10 provinces—İstanbul, İzmir, Ankara, Ordu, Sivas, Muğla, Erzurum, Şanlıurfa, Elazığ, and Mersin—local media representatives who were selected by lottery earned the opportunity to travel to Brussels and London. There, they had the chance to visit EU institutions, meet with officials and colleagues, and share their experiences.
The media representatives visited the European Commission’s Press Unit for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, the European Journalism Centre, the Brussels Press Club, and the European Parliament. They also met with Minister Egemen Bağış at Turkey’s Permanent Representation to the EU. During the meeting, Bağış provided a general assessment of Turkey-EU relations and answered questions from the journalists.
Following their meetings in Brussels, the media representatives traveled to London, where they visited the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the BBC Turkish Service, the Turkish Embassy in London, and the Association of Turkish-British Journalists.
